Yamato Holdings and Hanoi University of Industry Partner to Develop Skilled Drivers for the Japanese Market

On the afternoon of February 18, following a working session with Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, Mr. Nagao Yutaka, Chairman of Yamato Holdings, Japan’s leading logistics corporation, paid a working visit to Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) to explore potential collaboration in training professional drivers to meet the demands of the Japanese market.

At the meeting, Mr. Nagao Yutaka provided an overview of Yamato Holdings’ extensive operations. The corporation currently holds approximately 46% of Japan’s home delivery service market, processing 20 billion parcels annually. With a global presence spanning 7,000 offices across 23 countries and an annual revenue of approximately $10 billion, Yamato Holdings is at the forefront of the logistics industry.

Recognizing Vietnam as a promising source of skilled labor, the corporation expressed its intention to invest in the establishment of a Professional Driver Training Center in Vietnam. Additionally, Yamato Holdings aims to develop an AI Laboratory dedicated to researching the integration of artificial intelligence and information technology in logistics, with the objective of enhancing operational efficiency and workforce capabilities in both Vietnam and Japan.

Dr. Nguyễn Văn Thiện, Vice Rector of HaUI, extended a warm welcome to the delegation and acknowledged Yamato Holdings' ongoing collaborations, particularly with FPT Group. He expressed confidence that these initiatives would significantly contribute to Vietnam’s logistics sector while further strengthening cooperative relations between Vietnam and Japan.

Dr. Thiện emphasized that HaUI has extensive experience, a well-established reputation, and substantial resources in facilitating student internships, study programs, and employment opportunities abroad, particularly in Japan. Over the past two decades, LETCO, an enterprise under HaUI, has played a pivotal role in bridging Vietnamese students and workers with international job markets.

Mr. Nguyễn Quang Trung, Director of LETCO, presented the company's strengths and advantages in workforce development for the transportation sector

Mr. Nguyễn Quang Trung, Director of LETCO, reported that as of 2024, LETCO has successfully facilitated the placement of over 10,000 trainees and technicians in Japan. The company is actively implementing strategies to enhance training quality and recruitment processes, particularly through its flagship initiative, the “Training Engineers and Bachelors for Japan-Oriented Employment” program. This initiative is designed to equip Vietnamese professionals with the necessary skills and qualifications to excel in the Japanese labor market.

Furthermore, Mr. Trung underscored the availability of a highly skilled workforce for Yamato Holdings’ driver training program. Each year, more than 1,000 LETCO trainees complete their three-year contracts in Japan and return to Vietnam, representing a valuable human resource pool that can be leveraged to meet industry demands.

At the end of the visit, representatives of Yamato Holdings toured HaUI’s facilities, including the Automobile Technology and Driving Training Center, and praised HaUI’s infrastructure and training capabilities.

Both parties expressed their commitment to further discussions aimed at defining specific areas of cooperation, particularly in workforce development for the transportation and logistics sectors. This partnership is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing human resource quality while contributing to the sustainable growth of the logistics industry in both Vietnam and Japan.
