HaUI and U.S. Embassy in Vietnam strengthen cooperation toward sustainable development in education and training

Over the years, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) has identified international cooperation and educational globalization as strategic priorities, aiming to enhance the quality of training, research, and global integration. The relationship between HaUI and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam has always been highly valued and continuously strengthened among its international partners.

Notable collaborative initiatives between HaUI and U.S. organizations in recent years include the BUILD-IT project - "Building University-Industry Learning and Development through Innovation and Technology" - which promotes university-industry linkages through innovation; support from the Regional English Language Office (RELO Vietnam) under the U.S. Embassy for organizing various international conferences and workshops; the achievement of ABET accreditation in 2024 for five academic programs, marking a significant milestone in engineering and technology education; and the provision of meaningful scholarships to students.

As part of a working visit to Hanoi University of Industry on the afternoon of April 11, 2025, Ms. Mary Beth Polley - Country Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam - held a meeting with Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc, Rector of HaUI, to explore opportunities for future cooperation between the two sides.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc warmly greeted Ms. Mary Beth Polley and the U.S. Embassy delegation, emphasizing the long-standing, effective partnership between HaUI and various U.S. institutions. He highlighted HaUI’s strength in science, technology, and engineering education, while also noting its growing capabilities in language and social sciences. Dr. Thuc expressed hope that the U.S. Embassy would continue to act as a bridge to foster deeper linkages between HaUI and American universities, enterprises, and organizations.

He proposed several directions for expanded collaboration, including:

- Strengthening cooperation in the semiconductor industry - a sector prioritized by both Vietnam and the United States;

- Lecturers/ staff exchange and joint research collaborations;

- Workshops and academic courses sponsored for lecturers and students;

- Inviting U.S. professors, experts, and researchers to lecture and engage with the HaUI community;

- Officially inviting the U.S. Ambassador to visit and engage with HaUI students.

In response, Ms. Mary Beth Polley expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and commended the fruitful collaboration between the university and the U.S. Embassy over the years. She affirmed that HaUI is a key and trusted partner of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam in the field of education and training.

Given the Vietnamese government’s increasing focus on the semiconductor industry as a critical pillar of high-tech development, Ms. Polley emphasized the great potential for further bilateral collaboration in this area. She affirmed the U.S. Embassy’s commitment to working closely with relevant ministries and sectors in Vietnam to advance substantial and effective cooperation between higher education institutions of the two nations.
