HaUI Students Engage in a Moot Court
On March 12, the Ha Nam campus of Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) saw over 300 students participating in a Moot Court event. Organized in collaboration with the People's Procuracy of Phu Ly City, the Moot Court aimed to educate students about legal proceedings while addressing pertinent societal issues.
The simulated case centered around an instance of property theft allegedly committed by Tran Van Sang, a student at HaUI Ha Nam campus. According to the hypothetical scenario, Sang, a young individual still in the early stages of adulthood, purportedly stole two electric motorbikes from Mr. Duong's rental shop and a 55-inch SONY television from the university campus itself. The total value of the appropriated assets amounted to 28,100,000 VND.
The trial, meticulously crafted to mirror real-life legal proceedings, provided a platform for participants to delve into the complexities of the case. Through analysis and deliberation, the underlying factors contributing to Sang's actions were explored. It was concluded that his youth and limited sense of responsibility, coupled with insufficient familial and educational guidance, played significant roles in the commission of the theft. Additionally, the trial shed light on deficiencies in asset management within the educational institution and the lack of comprehensive legal education for students.
The Moot Court unfolded with precision, adhering closely to established court procedures. Participants assumed various roles, including the chairman, jurors, prosecutors, court clerks, lawyers, defendants, and witnesses. This immersive approach allowed students to gain firsthand insights into the workings of the judicial system, fostering a deeper understanding of legal concepts and principles.
The event served as more than just a simulation; it was a dynamic educational experience designed to resonate with the realities of student life. By tackling issues relevant to their peer group, such as accountability, ethics, and the consequences of unlawful behavior, the mock trial succeeded in capturing the attention and engagement of the student body.
Beyond its immediate impact, the mock trial underscored the importance of integrating legal education into the academic curriculum. By equipping students with knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, as well as an understanding of the legal consequences of their actions, educational institutions can play a proactive role in shaping responsible citizens.
