On 10/8/1898 Hanoi Technical school was established in accordance to the Decision by Hanoi Chamber of College.
In 1931 the school was renamed to Hanoi Vocational Technical College
On 29/8/1913 the technical college was established in accordance to the Decision by Indochina Governor. In 1921, the college was renamed Hai Phong Vocational College
On 15/02/1955 the opening ceremony for the first intake of Technical School was held at the location of the former Hanoi Vocational Technical College (now number 2F, Quang Trung Street)
In 1956 the opening ceremony for the first intake of Technical Worker School I was held in the location of the former Hai Phong Technical School (now May To Hai Phong Street). During the wartime, the school was located to Bac Giang.
In 1962, the Technical School I started enrolling students at college level and was renamed Electric Engineering Advanced Technical School. In 1966, it was renamed to Engineering School. In 1993, the school name was changed back to Hanoi Vocational Technical College. During wartime, it was relocated to Vinh Phuc.
In 1986 Technical Worker School I was relocated to Minh Khai, Tu Liem, Hanoi (now Tay Tuu ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi).
In 1991 Hanoi Vocational Technical College was relocated to Tay Tuu ward, Tu Liem District, Hanoi (now Tay Tuu ward, Bac Tu Liem district, Hanoi)
On 22/4/1997 Ministry of Industry issued Decision number 580/QĐ-TCCB to merge two institutions: Technical Worker School and Hanoi Vocational Technical College to form Industry School I.
On 28/5/1999 The Prime Minister issued decision number 126/QĐ-TTG to upgrade the Industry School I to Hanoi College of Industry
On 02/12/2005 The Prime Minister issued decision number 315/2005 QĐ/TTG to upgrade Hanoi College of Industry to Hanoi University of Industry.
