The Trade Union of Hanoi University of Industry Inaugurates Restoration Projects Mitigating the Impact of Typhoon No. 3 in Yên Sơn District, Tuyên Quang Province
On January 10, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Văn Đông, Vice Rector and chairman of the Trade Union of Hanoi University of Industry, attended and officiated the inauguration ceremony for a series of restoration projects designed to address the substantial damages caused by Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi). On behalf of Hanoi University of Industry, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Văn Đông participated in the ceremonies held at key educational institutions in Yên Sơn District, Tuyên Quang Province, namely Phúc Ninh Kindergarten, Chiêu Yên Primary School, and Chiêu Yên Secondary School, all of which had suffered considerable damage due to the typhoon.
On September 27, 2024, the Trade Union of Hanoi University of Industry had contributed a sum of 600 million VND to support the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Yên Sơn District, thereby significantly alleviating the severe consequences of Typhoon No. 3.
According to a report by the People’s Committee of Yên Sơn District, the aftermath of Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi), exacerbated by subsequent flooding, inflicted extensive damages across various sectors. The calamity resulted in the isolation of nearly 1,900 households, the complete destruction of one residence, and structural damages ranging from 30% to 50% for over 500 homes. Additionally, over 320 hectares of fishponds were flooded, and more than 1,700 hectares of rice paddies, crops, and orchards were severely impacted. The disaster also caused significant damage to infrastructure, including landslides and flooding along numerous roadways, the toppling of power poles, and landslides affecting 10 schools. The total economic losses have been estimated at over 150 billion VND.
