Hanoi University of Industry: Spreading Cultural Values through the Calligraphy Writing Contest

In the digital era, where technology is rapidly advancing, Vietnamese youth, particularly students at Hanoi University of Industry, are not only embracing innovation but also striving to preserve and promote traditional cultural values. One of the outstanding activities aimed at safeguarding folk art is the calligraphy writing contest.

on February 10, the Calligraphy Writing Contest, organized by the School of Foreign Languages and Tourism, Hanoi University of Industry, attracted nearly 50 students passionate about calligraphy. This event served as a meaningful platform for students to showcase their talents, exchange knowledge, and collectively foster a love for calligraphy - an invaluable heritage of East Asian culture.

Overview of the event

The contest not only encouraged students to hone their calligraphy skills but also deepened their understanding of the nation's reverence for learning and respect for written words. The elegant, flowing strokes not only demonstrated the participants’ artistic abilities but also reflected profound humanistic values and philosophical thoughts.

After a series of captivating performances, the organizing committee honored the most outstanding participants:

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hong Quan – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council of Hanoi University of Industry, and calligraphy master Tran Quoc Chi – Head of the UNESCO Calligraphy Club in Hanoi, presented the First Prize to Phan Van Dat, a student from the Mechanical Engineering Technology Class 2, Cohort 16.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Ba Phong – Vice Headmaster of the School of Foreign Languages and Tourism, under Hanoi University of Industry, and the calligraphy master Dr. Quach Van Dau – Lecturer at the Academy of Military Science, presented the Second Prize to Truong Thuy Linh, a student from the Korean Linguistics Class, Cohort 18.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Duong – Lecturer at the Faculty of Vietnamese Language and Culture, and Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huong – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Japanese Language Studies at Hanoi University of Industry, presented the Third Prize to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, a student from the Chinese Linguistics Class 2, Cohort 16; Hoang Thi Anh, a student from the Japanese Linguistics Class 1, Cohort 18; and Dam Thi Ngoc Anh, a student from the Chinese Linguistics Class 1, Cohort 19

The Calligraphy Writing Contest not only celebrated students' calligraphy talents but also played a significant role in preserving and promoting Vietnam’s cultural heritage in the modern era. It stands as a testament to the commitment of Hanoi University of Industry students - cultural ambassadors in the digital age.

Through this competition, traditional values were vividly and meaningfully conveyed, inspiring the younger generation to cherish, learn, and further promote national culture, instilling pride in calligraphy and artistic handwriting within the community.
