BUILD-IT webinar series
From February 22, 2022, to March 3, 2022, the University of Arizona in collaboration with Hanoi University of Industry organized 04 webinars with the theme "Synthesis, presentation, and evaluation of data", “Introduction to the Project Model and Project-Based Learning”. A series of events under the Building University-Industry Learning Development through Innovation and Technology (BUILD-IT Project).
Series of webinars under the BUILD-IT project with the participation of hundreds of HaUI officials and lecturers
The "Data Aggregation, Display & Evaluation Workshop" is designed for interested program leaders, lecturers and QA professional staff of Hanoi University of Industry. Participants will review fundamental tenants of assessing student learning as related to program-level learning outcomes and how that information is used to improve a course or program. Building on this knowledge, participants will review various assessment tools for determining student learning levels, based on the type of learning outcome, and the assessment data resulting from those tools. Techniques used to aggregate data from different types of assessment tools will be practiced.
Data Aggregation, Display & Evaluation Workshop
Aggregation provides an overall view of student attainment of the student outcome and provides a better basis for evaluation of where program improvements are needed. Development of software tools to aggregate assessment data streams and display them in easy-to-understand formats - which make evaluation more straightforward - will be explored. An electronic structure for assessment documentation (rubrics, assessment results and examples of student work) will be discussed and demonstrated. Participants will be given the data aggregation software tool so they can customize it for their use.
Introduction to Project-Based Learning and Project Models
Participants will explore the value of project-based learning in enhancing graduate readiness for industry and various project-based learning implementation models, including a project spine (spanning all four years of a program of study). A specific type of student project, called EPICs, will be introduced. Building on this foundation, on days 2 and 3 of this series participants will engage with Vietnamese educators that have implemented focused or student self-selected project classes like EPICS - Engineering Project In Community Services or MEP - Maker to Entrepreneur Program, as well as undergraduate research experiences.
EPICS is an engineering design-based service learning and social entrepreneurship program that incorporates the engineering and human-centered design processes in providing solutions to real-world problems facing society.
MEP's mission is to prepare top EPICS teams to understand the basics of early-stage venture development; making a first sale or pre-sale with an initial customer, conducting customer interviews, and completing feedback-based prototype iterations.
The EPICS - Engineering Project In Community Services and MEP - Maker to Entrepreneur Program
What students learn within MEP:
- Conduct customer interviews and complete feedback-based prototype iterations.
- Understand the basics of early-stage venture development, including sales and pre-sales (e.g., crowdfunding, purchase orders, letter of intents, etc.).
- Develop key venture deliverables, including validated value propositions, business models, and go-to-market strategies.
- Receive mentoring regarding marketplace traction and legal aspects of founding a startup with Vietnamese entrepreneurs.
- Make a first sale or pre-sale with an initial customer.
- Develop an English language evidence-based pitch deck that is built upon real data garnered from an initial customer(s).
