Scholarship hunting experience from a schoolgirl of Faculty of Auditing - Accounting

A total of 8 outstanding achievements in 3 years at university such as ACCA Scholarship, “Confident to Shine” Scholarship in 2 continuous years, The Third Prize of Researching Science Contest of the University, Outstanding Student Title, Scholarship of the University in 3 continuous years… The achievements of Minh Luan – the last year student of Faculty of Auditing & Accounting are so admirable. Recently, she had answered an interview to share her scholarship hunting experience with other students.

Hello Minh Luan, could you introduce a little about yourself?

Hi everyone, I am Nguyen Thi Minh Luan, last year student at Hanoi University of Industry, Faculty of Accounting & Auditing. In recent years, I have tried my best and attained some little achievements below:

- Scholarship of the university in the first, second and thirst semester.

- “Confident to Shine” Scholarship 2020.

- “Student of 5 Merits” Title in the school year of 2019 – 2020.

- Nguyen Thanh Binh Scholarship 2019 - 2020.

- ACCA Futurist Scholarship 2020.

- “Confident to Shine” Scholarship 2021.

- Outstanding Student in studying and training Title in the school year of 2020 - 2021.

- The Third Prize of Researching Science Contest of the University in the school year of 2020 - 2021.

How do you feel when you know you received ACCA Scholarship with 100% of the fee for F1, F2, F3 courses from SAPP Academy?

When received the notice of scholarship from SAPP via email, I was really excited. I feel very lucky to be one of 5 people to receive this precious scholarship. As soon as I received the notice, I shared the news with my family and friends, and especially with Mrs Nguyen Thi Hong Nga – Vice President of Faculty of Accounting & Auditing – she guided and encouraged me to pursue ACCA. I received many congratulations from everyone and really felt a little proud of myself for this little success.

Not every student has experience of getting a scholarship, do you have any experience to share with the students who want to get a scholarship from the university or other scholarships?
I think many students have thinking like “my grade is not good enough”, “it is hard to get a scholarship because the number is limited and a lot of students applies for”… It is true that I used to think like that but fortunately it disappears quickly, and I started to take action, prepared a detailed plan to be well-prepared.

With the university’s scholarship, right from the first year, I searched about the type of scholarship and its requirements. I wrote down to a notebook and set up a detailed study plan which made it much easier to get the scholarship.

With the ACCA scholarship, I also researched carefully. Before attending the interview with SAPP, I asked to do an ability test. The whole test was in English and my English was not good because the subjects at the university were taught in Vietnamese so I had some trouble finishing it. Besides, my study schedule was rather tight so I afraid that the interview would be at the same time as the class. However, SAPP contacted and supported me arrange a suitable time for the interview.

A little tip for you: daring to talk about your difficulties and find a solution together, not to be too rigid. Thanks to this mindset, I finished my class and attended the interview and got the scholarship.

Now you are working as an intern in a company. Do you think the knowledge taught at the university has a lot of differences from the reality at work?

Now I am an intern at ACC Vietnam Audition and Business Valuation Ltd Company and gradually familiar with the work. The knowledge at the university help me build a good basis and when taking an internship I can develop and acquired new skill. And a little tip that I find very useful: do not be afraid to raise a question, you should ask about what you do not know (of course you must research for yourself first, if you still do not get it then you ask the senior, they will answer).

When the working hour is over but if the work is not done, I will stay to finish, or If I learn something new, I will spend the end of the day to rethink, to note then leave the office. So I think the internship is a precious and meaningful time, I hope you do not waste it and instead make use of it.

What is your intention in the 5 upcoming years?

My main target in the 5 upcoming years is to get the ACCA Certificate, a 6.5 IELTS and moreover is to officially work at Deloitte. I will try to make the most of the received scholarship. I wish that in the upcoming scholarship of SAPP, you guys are well-prepared and get the scholarship.

I really like the saying “Everything changes when you change”. It is never too late to start. You should set up a detailed plan and stick to it every day, you can do it.

Besides the time for study and friends, Minh Luan is also a girl who loves her mother so much

International Women’s Day is about to come, do you have any wishes for other women?

The girl always wants to be admired for their beauty and young, so I wish all the grandma, the aunt, the mother, the sister always stay young, fresh, radiant and confident like the flowers.

I want to send thanks and a wish to the lecturers of the Faculty of Accounting & Auditing in particular, and the Board of Trustees of the university in general. They always accompany us, convey the knowledge of the job, sometimes encourage us in life. And whenever studying online or studying in the classroom, we always feel the whole-hearted of them.

I want to give a special thank to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga for always informing the student about many scholarship programs, for helping me earlier approach Accounting & Auditing certificates. She is not only the one who motivates but also accompanies and be a friend with students of the Faculty. She makes us more confident to step forward in life.
