Embracing Vietnamese Culture: Nele's Journey as a Volunteer at HaUI

Six months ago, Nele, a passionate volunteer from Germany, set foot in Vietnam to teach English at Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI). In this short period, she has adapted seamlessly to her new environment and woven herself into the vibrant tapestry of Vietnamese culture. Nele's experiences at HaUI have been filled with memorable moments, making her feel like a cherished member of the Vietnamese family.

Adapting to Vietnam

Banh Chung Delight

One of Nele's unforgettable experiences was trying her hand at making banh chung, a traditional Vietnamese dish associated with the Lunar New Year, or Tet. The collaborative effort with students in creating this special treat not only provided Nele with a newfound appreciation for Vietnamese customs but also made her feel an integral part of the community. The joy of participating in such a cherished tradition resonated deeply with Nele, creating a bond that transcended language barriers.

"In Germany, we don't have such a tradition during Tet. Participating in making banh chung with the students created unforgettable memories and was an opportunity for me to learn many new things," Nele expressed with enthusiasm.

As March unfolded, Nele found herself immersed in the unique celebrations of International Women's Day on March 8.
