Lab–Movie: bridging the gap between academia and the Vietnamese labor market
From March 27, 2023 to March 29, 2023, Hanoi University of Industry cooperated with Hanoi University to organize a Training workshop on "Lab-movie partner meeting international conference and dissemination event”.
Overview of the Conference
Attending the conference, on the side of the Project Management Board and European universities, there were speakers from the following institutions: University of Padova, Italy; StePS Organization, Italy; University of Salamanca, Spain; Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal.
Representatives of Vietnamese universities participating in the project including Hanoi University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, University of Economics and Business Administration,Thai Nguyen University; Hanoi University of Industry, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, and Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.
On the side of Hanoi University of Industry, there was the presence of Assoc.Prof. Le Hong Quan, Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc, Rector; Dr. Hoang Ngoc Tue, Headmaster of School of Languages & Tourism; Assoc.Prof. Pham Duc Cuong, Director of HaUI Institute of Technology, Head of the project implementation team; representatives of units such as Center for Enterprise Partnership, Center for International Cooperation, Faculty of Information Technology, and Faculty of Chemical Technology; lecturers and students of the university.
The conference was also attended by the invited universities such as: Quang Ninh University, Hanoi University of Textiles and Garments, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Dai Nam University and nearly 20 companies in Vietnam.
Assoc.Prof. Le Hong Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council of Hanoi University of Industry, delivered a welcome speech at the conference.
In his welcome speech, Assoc.Prof. Le Hong Quan expressed his pleasure and gratitude to the Lab-Movie project management team from Europe, University of Padova and the project coordination team in Vietnam - Hanoi University of Science and Technology for bringing the opportunity for Hanoi University of Industry to welcome domestic and foreign universities, agencies, organizations, enterprises, experts, and scientists.
Assoc.Prof. Le Hong Quan highly appreciated the efforts of project members. During nearly three years of implementing the Lab-Movie project, which also had many challenges caused by Covid-19, all members participating in the project worked very actively, professionally, and cooperatively to complete a large amount of work of activity groups, with many important objectives achieved. At the same time, he hoped that the Lab-Movie project will have practical impacts on students of Hanoi University of Industry in their career orientation. HaUI will have many opportunities to participate in other projects sponsored by the European Commission.

Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc, Rector of Hanoi University of Industry, appreciated the practicality and objectives of the Lab-Movie project. He emphasized that the project's objectives are in line with the training orientation of Hanoi University of Industry over the years.
The education system and businesses need to cooperate to provide useful solutions that help graduates have solid expertise and appropriate skills to meet the requirements of the labor market. This will be effectively implemented through an information gateway that connects employers, students, and training institutions. HaUI will review and update the content of the training program in line with the actual needs of society, reduce the theoretical content, and enhance vocational practice.
Ms. Anna Boaretto, from the University of Padova, Italy, introduced the Lab-Movie Project
Ms. Anna Boaretto, representative of the Lab-Movie project from the University of Padova in Italy, stated that Lab-Movie is a multinational cooperation project to transfer capacity to universities in Vietnam from development organizations and universities in Europe, funded by the European Commission. In the project, the University of Padova plays the role of project coordinator for the European side, while Hanoi University serves as the project coordinator for the Vietnamese side. The project establishes a web-based tool that allows universities to collect and process labor market information, provide useful overview information to students about the skills and requirements demanded by businesses, connect job positions that are suitable for their majors with businesses, and help universities adjust their training programs to meet the practical requirements of businesses.
The conference consists of 2 discussion sessions: The content of the first session is "Training workshop on Lab-Movie Project "; The second session is about " Seminar to introduce, promote and disseminate the results of the Lab-Movie project ".
At the first session, 5 universities in Vietnam that are members of the project reported in turn on the final version of the Web Platform monitoring and capturing labor market information in Vietnam. Then, the workshop proceeded to exchange and discuss topics related to LMO.
The representative of the research team from Viet Nam National University of Agriculture in charge of the Food sector reported on the final version of the Web Platform
The representative of the research team of the University of Economics and Business Administration, Thai Nguyen University in charge of the field of tourism reported on the final version of the Web Platform.
During the second session, 05 reports were presented at the seminar, along with some insightful contributions, specifically related to the LMO platform, its key outcomes and benefits for students experiencing the LMO platform, the role of supervision, and grasping the labor market.

Business representatives, experts, and students discussed at the conference
Hanoi University of Industry participated in a part of the project on the ICT labor market, which included conducting surveys, analyzing data, synthesizing information, and building a database on the labor market needs and employment opportunities for various positions.
At the conference, experts discussed and answered questions related to the development of web content, including creating categories and images, building databases on the requirements of businesses for different job positions. This helps students understand the requirements of employers, and at the same time, employers can find suitable candidates for their businesses.
Various reports were presented from different perspectives and fields, highlighting the practical evaluation of LMO Web platforms in research groups. It is evident that the LMO Web platform has been widely introduced and disseminated to universities, students, and businesses, becoming a bridge to narrow the gap between training results and business needs."
