Launching ceremony of reading movement and writing contest about library

On the morning of May 7, 2022, Hanoi University of Industry held the launching ceremony of reading movement and writing contest about the library, in order to excite the enthusiasm for reading, encourage sharing, and disseminate reading culture; at the same time, it is an opportunity for students to propose ideas to develop reading culture and improve library activities of the University.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc - Vice President of the University emphasized: The library is always the second lecture hall after every lesson; reading helps students a lot, not only in enhancing skills, knowledge, and awareness, but also in training creativity, thinking capacity, and personality. He hopes that reading books will become a good habit, spread and replicated among students, staff, lecturers and students of the University.

At the launch, speaker Nguyen Quoc Vuong spent time sharing about “Reading and career success”. His sharing had many interesting contents such as: the role and significance of the profession to individuals; advantages and disadvantages in choosing professions and occupations in the 21st century; some examples of career success; what reading helps people in their professions; how to read to receive information and apply it to their jobs and personal life.

While sharing experiences to read books effectively, the speaker emphasized: Students should pick good books to read from a treasure trove of innumerable book genres, and read a range of genres and topics with a critical mind. It is not necessary to remember all the content of the book while reading, but rather to absorb the author's spirit and remember the profound contents; a notebook is required to record reading history, as well as main ideas and good points.

Student Do Duy Duong - Chairman of the Book and Action Club, Hanoi University of Industry said that individual reading will boost the reading culture of the entire student community. Duy Duong emphasized: Attending the launching ceremony of the reading movement, students like her feel more inspired and have a more efficient reading method.

Talking more about his Book and Action Club, Duy Duong shared: The Book and Action Club of Hanoi University of Industry was established in May 2015, the club currently has 3 huge bookcases, with hundreds of books for students to borrow. The club also organizes many book sharing sessions, book fairs, trips, etc., with the hope of spreading the reading habit among students and connecting with the community of book enthusiasts.

Listening attentively to the launching ceremony, Doan Duy Thanh - a student of Class Computer Science, K15 said: Actually, after 90 minutes of listening to speaker Nguyen Quoc Vuong, I realized the I recognized the greater importance of reading books, as well as obtained new experience and secrets to efficiently read books to better serve my study and research. I really thank the School Board, the teachers at the Library and Information Center, as well as the speaker, for organizing a very meaningful exchange session for students. Hopefully, the students will have more joy, passion and love for books.

The library of Hanoi University of Industry contains diverse resources: more than 20,000 documents are books and textbooks covering many fields of science - technology, literature, history, foreign languages, life skills..., more than 5,000 electronic documents, with more than 50 collections in each field, major, and 23 open-access database sources. In addition, the University library also links with nearly 100 regional libraries and colleges and universities through digital libraries. Students can study in groups, have academic exchanges and find information and documents easily.
