School of Languages and Tourism: 1 year of important achievements
On the morning of January 10, 2023, the School of Languages and Tourism, Hanoi University of Industry held a preliminary review of the pilot year of establishing the School of Languages and Tourism. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Quy - Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of Hanoi University of Industry chaired the Preliminary session.
The School of Languages and Tourism (SLT) was established on December 2, 2022, on the basis of merging and developing the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the Faculty of Tourism. After one year of operation, besides the shortcomings and difficulties, SLT has implemented many effective solutions in the process of organizing and performing tasks to ensure the achievement of the objectives of the approved projects.

In the report presented at the preliminary meeting, Dr. Hoang Ngoc Tue - Rector of the School of Languages and Tourism summarized 08 important contents on Organization, personnel and training; Training; Business cooperation, international cooperation, job support for students; Inspection, testing and quality assurance; Scientific research work; Curriculum work; EOP system management and communication.
Specifically, according to the report, in 2022, the SLT opened a new master's degree (Chinese language); 02 undergraduate majors (Chinese Studies, Restaurant and Catering Management), 3 training programs in English, 02 2+2 training programs with foreign partners, 1 distance learning program. As of December 31, 2022, the total training scale of SLT is 3,878 students, of which formal universities account for 98.3%.

According to Dr. Hoang Ngoc Tue, determining the goal of organizing the implementation of practical application-oriented training, SLT has proactively proposed many solutions to promote activities to support capacity and skills training, organized field trips, internships and jobs for students: Signing MOUs with 35 enterprises (27 domestic, 8 foreign); organized 15 career orientation seminars/talks for students with 529 turns of students participating…, received funding for equipment, funding for internships, training, scholarships from corporations and businesses with the total amount of more than 4 billion dongs; received 04 foreign experts from international organizations to teach at the school; coordinated to organize 02 international seminars….

Proposing to change the governance model and some activities of the School of Languages and Tourism, the report stated: The school needs to focus on training staff resource for the future; The School of Languages and Tourism continues to work specifically with HaUI focal units to decentralize management in all aspects of operation, including decentralization on the e-university; Supplementing management personnel for the Board of Directors, Training Department….; Investing in training, retraining and training to improve professional capacity, scientific research and teaching methods for lecturers; Building economic and technical norms for the language and tourism sector; Essential CSVC investment; Ensuring funding for extracurricular activities, soft skills, career-start-up for students.
Affirming the correctness when developing the school model under the university, through the pilot establishment of the School of Agriculture - Tourism, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Quy - Secretary of the Party Committee, and Rector of Hanoi University of Industry congratulated the initial success of the project. After more than 1 year of operating the School of Agriculture and Tourism, some initial results in 8 contents have had a certain success, changing most of the employees' perception of a new evaluation management model.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Duc Quy highly appreciated the drastic and bravery of leaders and managers of the School of Languages and Tourism when implementing the project, and suggested that in the coming time, it is necessary to:
(1) Continue to consistently operate the school model in accordance with the provisions of law and according to the orientation and principles of Hanoi University of Industry;
(2) Edit legal documents so that after the next 2 years, continue to organize the evaluation and review of the model;
(3) Supplementing personnel and fostering staff and specialists for both departments and faculties;
(4) Continuing to study the specific decentralization of some jobs and fields for the School of Languages and Tourism such as training, finance and accounting, business cooperation, and student work...;
(5) The quality assurance system should be unified, connected, and decentralized in each stage; Coordinate with the Center for Business Cooperation of the University to have a breakthrough in both breadth and depth of Business Cooperation;
(6) Hanoi University of Industry needs to have a detailed and periodical work plan to continue orienting the development of the School of Languages and Tourism in accordance with practical requirements.
