Hanoi University of Industry: Forming a digital ecosystem
Nowadays, Digital transformation in educational institutions, especially higher education, is an inevitable trend. Accordingly, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) has proactively deployed many solutions to implement digital transformation towards the goal of "smart university".
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Duc Quy - Rector of Hanoi University of Industry, said that the digital transformation process of Hanoi University of Industry is being operated in 6 phases.
First, computerization with an information technology (IT) system consists of 44 servers, 4,082 computers, 3,349 IT and communication equipment, 127 application softwares of all kinds.

Second, connectivity: Since 2009, all computers in the school have been internally connected by optical fiber system. The school network is also connected to the internet, ensuring that 100% of devices are able to connect and perform operations through the international network. Since 2017, with the application of the IT system following the model of Electronic University with 28 software modules and 5 mobile applications, over 90% of HaUI’s activities have been ensured to operate, connect on a unified database in real time. All activities directly related to students, especially the school social network on web and mobile platforms, have created a tight connection between the school, students and interested parties. Exploiting the advantages from the digital ecosystem has also been effectively deployed.
Third, visualization: The operation of the e-university system according to the business process management model (BPM) has helped to form a unified and accurate database as the basis for the synthesizing and analyzing the reports on the results of activities in the university. With more than 623 reports presented in the form of dashboards on the e-university system, the operational trends as well as the performance results of each field are clearly presented as the basis for the decision-making process at all levels.
Fourth, transparency: With 615 operation processes digitized into software applications to support operation and management at each stage, it has helped to determine the responsibility of each individual on the system; the results of the implementing all stages of the operation process and reports are are clearly and publicly displayed. Students' opinions are collected comprehensively, objectively and regularly through the system, helping to timely solve arising problems and remove blurred spots in the school's management and operation.
Fifth, predicting: The trend of applying artificial intelligence and intelligentizing the management system has been gradually applied by Hanoi University of Industry.
Sixth, adaptation: This is the highest stage of digital transformation when the system automatically converts and adapts to arising problems. Currently, HaUI is taking a number of steps to prepare for the application of the smart university model at the school.
“Digital transformation has helped Hanoi University of Industry initially form a digital ecosystem; improve the effectiveness and efficiency of management and operation; contribute to improving the quality of training and research in the university” - Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Duc Quy emphasized.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Duc Quy added:
"Effective digital transformation helps HaUI quickly adapt to arising problems, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. The school's activities such as enrollment, admission, training organization, assessment, diploma award etc…are still taken place normally in the digital environment."
