First Aid Training at HaUI: A Step Towards Safety Awareness
On August 28, 2024, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), in collaboration with Hanoi Medical University, organized a comprehensive first-aid training course for its officials, employees, and students. The training saw the enthusiastic participation of nearly 500 members of the HaUI community, reflecting a strong commitment to safety and preparedness within the university.
The Importance of First Aid Knowledge and Skills
Emphasizing the importance of understanding first aid knowledge and skills, Dr. Nguyen Van Thien, Vice Rector of HaUI, highlighted the critical role of first responders in emergencies. He stated, "Those who perform first aid are those who come into contact with victims from the beginning. Therefore, if they are trained in basic first aid knowledge, and have understanding and skills, it will be a very important step to effectively support victims." Dr. Thien’s words underscore the significance of being equipped with first aid skills, as the immediate actions taken can make a substantial difference in the outcomes for victims.

Comprehensive First Aid Training
The training session was led by Dr. Nguyen Quoc Linh, an experienced medical professional, who provided invaluable insights into essential first-aid practices. The course covered a wide range of topics crucial for emergencies. Dr. Linh began with an overview of safety principles in first aid, emphasizing the importance of assessing the environment and ensuring one’s safety before assisting others. This foundational knowledge is vital in preventing further harm during emergencies.
Participants were then guided through the treatment of various types of injuries, including wounds caused by cuts and both chemical and thermal burns. Dr. Linh demonstrated effective techniques for treating these injuries, ensuring participants understood the steps to prevent infection and further complications.

Hands-On Practice
A significant portion of the training was dedicated to hands-on practice. Participants had the opportunity to practice hemostasis, learning how to control bleeding using different methods depending on the severity of the injury. The training also included a session on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a critical skill that can save lives in cases of cardiac arrest. Dr. Linh provided step-by-step guidance on performing CPR, allowing participants to practice the technique on mannequins to build confidence and proficiency.
In addition, the training covered removing foreign objects from the airways, an essential skill in preventing choking incidents. Through practical demonstrations and practice sessions, participants learned how to perform the Heimlich maneuver and other techniques to clear airway obstructions.
Building Confidence and Preparedness
The training was well-received by attendees, who appreciated the opportunity to learn and practice these life-saving skills. Student Doan Huy Hoang expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Through today's training session, I have learned quite a few skills. I have equipped myself with the knowledge to ensure safety when studying as well as to be able to help people around me when necessary." His words highlight the importance of such training sessions in empowering individuals to act confidently in emergencies.
A Step Towards a Safer Community
The first aid training organized by Hanoi University of Industry is a testament to the university’s commitment to the well-being of its community. By equipping its members with essential first-aid skills, HaUI is fostering a culture of safety and preparedness that extends beyond the classroom. Such initiatives not only enhance the immediate protection of the university environment but also contribute to the broader community by preparing individuals to respond effectively in emergencies.
As the university continues to promote health and safety awareness, the knowledge and skills gained from this training will undoubtedly serve as a valuable asset to the HaUI community.
